How to Create a Shabby Chic Piece of Furniture…

With a new baby on the way and a house that has absolutely no storage space… I have had to be a little creative with what little space we have and move a few things around!

After a few weeks of searching for a second hand wardrobe, I found just the thing on gumtree.com.au for $100.

Now was the task to change it from an ordinary timber wardrobe into something a little more luxe…

Here is what you need :-

  • Sandpaper (medium thickness) & a block (or if you have one a handheld electric sander is also great and makes the job quicker)
  • Masking Tape
  • Paint Brush (Small & Large)
  • Dulux Prep & Primer
  • Dulux Wash & Wear Paint

Steps

  1. Give the outside surface a light sanding
  2. Use a clean, dry paintbrush to dust off excess dust from sanding… this is a great job to involve little helpers who are extremely eager and enthusiastic to join in…
  3. Tape up around the edges to ensure no spills into the unpainted areas and a neater end result. Then you are ready to paint your first undercoat ~ allow to dry. Then paint 2 coats, depending on the look you desire
  4. And to finish off, just sand down some areas to create an ‘old world’ look such as the door nobs and around the edges of the doors

You can create this look on almost any old piece of furniture you may have around the house and it really makes a huge difference!

So, what do you think?
