Mood Boosting Foods

As the days get shorter and the nights get colder, even the best of us can get a little down. And let’s face it – winter generally isn’t the most welcomed season. Rain, frost bite, coughs, colds and not to mention the dreaded winter blues are a catalyst for the extra kilos that add to the pitfalls of Winter.

But just when you thought you had a good excuse to hibernate for the next three months, we’ve discovered some of the best ‘mood boosting foods’ that is sure to see a smile on your dial and a spring in your step, regardless of what mother nature is up to.

Oysters : you don’t have to be in the mood for seduction to enjoy oysters (but hey, that’s sure to boost your mood too!)

Asparagus: packed with folic acid, asparagus is delicious, easy to cook and packed with enzymes that are highly effective in breaking down alcohol in your system – preventing a hangover and hey lets face it – that can make anyone happy!

Bananas: packed with potassium, bananas are a great snack and with less than 100 calories each – they’re probably the better alternative to that king size bar of chocolate…

Blueberries: bursting with amazing antioxidants, these berries may be blue, but they’re sure to bring a smile out of you

Cocoa: Women have never needed a scientist to tell us that chocolate is a happy food, but its been proven that dark chocolate generates serotonin and keeps the moody blues at bay. Skip the sugary stuff and indulge in the highest percentage of cocoa (dark chocolate) for smiles to last days.

Fresh Fish: for those of you who are still reading this, its obvious that serotonin plays a huge part in beating the blues and fresh fish such as pink salmon or fresh tuna are high on the list of foods that make you feel good

Healthy Carbs: NOTE: this does not include a huge serving of French fries – despite how tempting it can be. Healthy carbs such as whole grain bread, brown rice, oats, fresh fruit & veggies are loaded with essential amino acids for a healthy nervous system – and lets be honest, who can say no to a slice of freshly baked bread on a cold winters day!?
In order to feel good, you need to give your body the ‘feel good fuel’ it needs. When all else fails – try these Lemon Macaroons from the Happiness Diet – just the sound of them is enough to make me smile…

So, what do you think?
